The Client

This client is a manufacturer of cake mixtures and bakery products sold primarily to the local bakers and “in-house” bakeries are now found in most major supermarkets. They operate an existing Matcon system to handle his finished product from the blender to the packaging line.

The Objective

Due to increased quality standards, they wanted to install additional sieving and metal detection checks before final packaging. This demonstrates an IBC system's inherent flexibility to adapt to future changes.

The Solutions

This client had experienced difficulties with the existing system, maintenance was time-consuming and expensive, cleaning was difficult and accidental inflation of the hygiene cover could have resulted in an accident. An ISL “upgrade” station was recommended with the additional upper cone that reduces contact between the inner elastomers and “corrosive” fats and oils.

Summary

There were some initial problems. The very cohesive nature of these products meant that the ISL station needed to work at full lift. This sometimes meant that the sieve was overfed. Monitoring the sieve's current consumption allowed the discharge to be reduced in the event of overfeeding.‍
